Synopsis for the 1st StoryEdit

The Carnage case resolved (PPSSM #233, '96), Ben and Peter arrange a picture of Spidey with the Spider-skeleton that Peter sells to the Bugle, then bury the skeleton in a cemetery. Jessica snaps a picture revealing Ben as Spider-Man, whom she blames for her father's death (SenSM #4, '96). The Bugle offers $100,000 for the Spider-skeleton. Ben searches for Seward, who has gone missing, finding his lab dismantled. Back home, he learns his rent check has bounced. Gaunt has secluded Seward at Multiplex Corporation where he demands Seward work on restoring his damaged body. Ben learns the IRS has flagged his bank account because of an irregularity in the Social Security number Seward created for him. At the Daily Grind, two cops tell Shirley that Ben has a violent history with past employers. Elsewhere, the mercenary group Cell-12 severely beats Peter, who, powerless (since SM:FA #4, '96), doesn't fight back. After Spidey foils a mugging, he returns home to find all his stuff gone; a note on his floor reads, "We know who you are!!" Disgusted by their pummeling of a defenseless man, Cell-12 walk away. Panicked, Spidey rushes back to the Daily Grind and finds it ablaze.
